The Raine behind Rainey Day

If you knew me growing up, you would understand why this job makes so much sense for me. I have always been that person to come over to a house and help organize, cook, or clean. My earliest memories are of family and close friends asking for my support in these areas and the fulfillment I found in those tasks was beyond words. As a new parent, I was so grateful for anyone that offered to pitch in and the smallest task taken off my plate was such a relief. I knew then, that I wanted to be that person for other people, both in my own network and beyond!

My passion for in home learning started when my kids were babies and I began teaching them through play. I quickly saw how just a little additional learning time at home added to their daycare lessons and the impact it had on their academic confidence. At the start of the pandemic in March of 2020, I found myself full time homeschooling my children and a family member. Then with the decision for Chicago Public Schools to do virtual learning that September, I began hosting a pod of pre-k and kindergarteners for the next year. In the virtual learning environment I was able to observe teachers, teaching styles, learning materials and what worked versus what did not. I provided additional support through games and short lessons. All of the kids in my care surpassed their individual grade levels with ease in both reading and math at a time when many kids were struggling. From this I started my tutoring business and I have been supporting families in math, language arts and Spanish for the last 6 years.
